Things are hotting up for the Species Competition to be held on 5th September 2021, which will be open to all boat anglers. Chris Ellis has done a brilliant job organising and promoting the event. He has bags of experience with Species Competitions, regularly fishing the Rosslare Small Boat Festival and more recently the Sea Angling Classic and his experience is already showing its worth.
Anglers must register and pick up their competition packs from Southsea Marina, and there will be an exciting start line-up at 8:00am off the RNLI station in the Langstone Harbour entrance. Boats must return across the same line by 4pm for their fish to qualify. It will be a photo-catch-release competition with the exception of plaice, and the largest plaice should be retained to be used in the event of a tie-break. Chris has produced a comprehensive rule-sheet pictured above. There are other useful guides in the competition pack including fish identification. Entry is only £10 per angler plus an optional £5 pool. All entry money will be returned as prizes and trophies, plus additional prizes donated by sponsors. This event has already attracted a lot of anglers so it promises to be great fun. Top prize is £500 cash plus entry to next year’s Sea Angling Classic worth £250, so this is a competition worth winning!
