Every year, there is a competition between members of SMAC, ECA, LHFA and Southsea Sea Angling Club. The winning club gets to host the event the following year. For the last two years LHFA have held on to the trophy, so this year SMAC were not the organisers although we did host the weigh-in, I think mainly because we had a staffed bar on hand!

We had a good representation from SMAC although as a number of members are also members of another club, I’m never quite sure who is fishing for which. Anyway, the rules are simple. £5 entry, winner takes all for the best specimen as a percentage of the Angling Trust Area D listing. This is an event all about tactics – where do you go to have the best chance of catching a large fish of a species where the specimen weights are within reach?

Our Pete Churchill was doing well with a large bull Huss but was pipped by Wayne Comben fishing for the ECA. He won with a Bull Huss of 11lb 7oz which was 95.31% (Specimen is 12lb).

Next year the Inter Club competition will be organised and hosted by ECA!
